To be in relationship with land is also to care for it.
In this session, we’ll spend time tending to the Temperance Sanctuary through acts of gentle stewardship—clearing debris, picking up trash, and making space for new life to emerge. As we work, we’ll reflect on the ecological history of the land and the environmental heritage of the region: What once grew here? Who called this place home?
Through group discussion and shared observation, we’ll begin imagining the future of this space—what kinds of native plants, beings, and relationships do we want to nurture?
The Temperance Sanctuary is a new extension of the Temperance Alley Garden – a place to quiet down, to observe, and to cultivate reciprocity between ourselves and the land. Come join us in the visioning and stewardship of Temperance Sanctuary: as a time capsule of Indigenous history and stewardship, native food/micro forest to bring back native biodiversity, and an ecological classroom to foster and practice our stewardship. If you’re interested in any of these topics, we welcome you to join us in its design and execution!
